I returned to Thatchers for a spot of lunch, with a long standing business associate, having recommended the venue to him, for which my colleague was delighted to go on my recommendation. It having been a little while since I was last there, but the experience previously always excellent, and having been a regular at this venue for many years, and still using regularly other hotels in the Surya chain, I was confident it would be a great experience. How wrong was I! Instead I had to explain to my lunch companion that we were not welcome and had to leave! Upon arrival, we sat in the garden area, getting strange looks from people, no one however saying anything, and no one came to attend to us. So I go to reception to ask for service, to be greeted by an unfriendly, rude, arrogant person, who informs me the hotel is not open to the public and we have to leave. I was not allowed to return to the garden through the usual garden entrance that I just came through, and was made to leave through the main entrance and walk around. If the hotel is now closed then firstly, there were a lot of people there considering it is closed, the hotel sign is still up, and the car park is open and it is still listed on booking sites. I suggest Surya act professionally when they close a hotel to ensure it is not misleading and inviting people in! Take down the hotel sign or cover it up, and put a sign at the very entrance or a barrier to inform people without telepathic abilities that the hotel is now closed. When people do come in not realising this, you should also ensure the people managing the site are helpful, apologetic for the misunderstanding and look after your customers! This experience has certainly tainted my long-standing relationship with Surya and having had this experience whilst with a business colleague, I sadly find myself unable to do so in the future. Appalling management failure.

Booked in may 2022 for a birthday present with tickets to an event nearby for november 2022. The hotel sent me a cancellation a few weeks before the date I was due to go, letting me know they have cancelled it. When I enquired as to why, they told me they cancelled all upcoming bookings to lease to a private client until October 2023. Not really a great way to treat your customers

It's a lovely spot, great rooms with large TV and excellent showers, but it was a little dirty with dust on the stairs, odd litter all over the carpet and whatever that bacon actually was , I was still chewing half an hour later. The staff are trusted to do a job so its harsh to put down the hotel for things outside their s scope, but for the price its value for money......just dont order the bacon for breakfast

I thought the room looked a little tired but the beds were perfectly comfortable and our room was a decent size. We had breakfast in the morning which was fantastic and the staff were very friendly and polite. I paid £80 (ish) for a family room for 2 adults and 2 children and that included breakfast. Excellent value for money and somewhere I would book again. No major issues at all, a good place to stay.

Lovely hotel set in lovely countryside for nice walks. Staff at hotel were very helpful and kind nothing was to much trouble for them. Breakfast was great plus had a lunch and evening meal there and were top quality. The only disappointment I was there for 3 nights and no one came into clean my room. I should have said something but was to busy. Otherwise had a great stay

Stayed here for a long weekend a large group of us 11 and cannot fault it. Beautiful setting, rooms fantastic, food good and staff great. I would especially like to thank James the Bar/Restaurant Manager and his staff they were brilliant and a credit to the hotel. Sandra and Lulu on reception for being so attentive and helpful and really making it a stay to remember.

We booked for afternoon tea for our wedding anniversary. There was plenty to eat and drink and it was very good quality. A special thanks to Madalin who served us. Nothing was too much trouble and he was do friendly and kind. They accidently included ham sandwiches when we are vegetarian but it was easily remedied. Would recommend.

Had a 2 night stay, to celebrate our anniversary. We had a couple of issues with the room (nothing drastic), and our breakfast on the Saturday morning. We felt it wasn't very well organized. However, the breakfast today (Sunday) was like a different Hotel ! We think there might have been staffing issues, due to Covid. It is a very pleasant Hotel, and staff do all they can to help.

We had a lovely stay with friends, nothing was too much trouble for the staff whether it was reception or the waiting staff excellent service start to finish. I have to say a very special thank you to Mona on reception who kindly helped us out of a muddle, it was very much appreciated. The bed was comfortable the room clean and food wonderful. Never have I had my bacon cooked perfectly to my taste anywhere I’ve stayed before! Thank you Thatcher’s for a great stay we’ll definitely be back.
